What would God say?

I need your help. During the next two weeks, I am praying and reflecting on what God would have said in the sermons during the new church year: December 2006 - November 2007. What would Jesus say? What does he want said? What do God's people at Trinity and in our community need to hear?

Would you help? What do you think? Please leave your thoughts as comments in this blog entry.

What should I preach about and what should we focus on this next year?

  • Hi - one topic I have been praying about almost every day for the last year is God's Will. I am beginning to realize God's Will is very simple and very difficult at the same time.

I have been reading "The Utmost for His Highest" daiy devotionals by Oswald Chambers for the past year and he really speaks very clear about "The Surrendered Life". If we obey God he will lead and guide us to do His Will. We will not obey God if we don't believe and "see" Jesus though our lives and the lives of others. We pray for the Holy Spirit to fill us with the love that IS Jesus Christ so are not bound to this World but are bound to Him and can become more like Christ. I believe this is God's Will for all of us. And as I can personally relate, this is no easy task but a daily and life long devotion to meet Him through Prayer, Prayer and more Prayer.
Oswald states: "The battle is lost or won in the secret places of the will before God, never first in the external world. . . . Every now and again, not often, but sometimes, God brings us to a point of climax. That is the Great Divide in the life; from that point we either go towards a more and more dilatory and useless type of Christian life, or we become more and more ablaze for the glory of God - [Our] Utmost for His Highest."

  • Good morning!
Another sermon topic came to me yesterday - "How much do we know about the 12 disiples?" I know they are ordinary men that each of us has something in common with. I am sure they must have struggled with the same questions we have, but with Faith in Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, their weaknesses became strengths. Also, I know they must have died horrific deaths believing in Christ. It would be a powerful message to tell some of their stories- not just as a story but a as historic facts.

  • Me again :)
Poverty: Why is Christ so visible in the eyes of the poor and hungry? As we were discussing last night - it is because they are stripped of all the possesions in the World that distract us from Him. Jesus identified himself with the poor and hungry people and those who suffer and are in need of help. We "see" Christ in those people because Christ lives in them. He also lives in us, but the World tells us different. We have to make the choice to let go of "ourselves" and selfish ways. When we die we will be stripped of everything and our true self is all that is left before God. What will we say as we stand before God with nothing but our body, mind and soul? What does God already know about us that we haven't taken the time to discover? We are all poor when we meet Christ at the gates of Heaven.

  • Good morning - "Being justified freely by His grace.."Romans 3:24- this scripture really speaks so clearly but it is hard for many to understand this great gift.

Grace: I think we take this so lightly in our society what actually is God's Grace. It has no boundaries, and is not separated by where we live or what we look like or where we worship. We believe if we give and give and do "good deeds" it will make us feel good about ourselves and often prideful. We will do anything to avoid admitting that we are sinners and having someone else tell me all I have to do is accept Jesus as my Savior and I am forgiven. Either we accept this gift of Grace or we don't. What is it in each of us that deep down seeks and needs Grace? God can not work in our lives if we cannot accept the need for Him.

  • Holy Spirit: I can hear and see the Word of God but how can I feel it? God gave us through Jesus Christ the gift of forgiveness but what about the gift of the Holy Spirit? I don't think we talk enough about the power each one of has to act beyond ourselves and "feel" and live the Word of God. This is not on our own doing, but the Holy Spirit needs to be in our heart and soul. We need to choose if we want this gift and let the Holy Spirit get to work.
